the reaction of zinc with dilute nitric acid does not produce hydrogen gas why

Because nitric acid is oxidizing agent which oxidize hydrogen ion into water molecules and get it self reduce into nitrogen dioxide, nitrogen monoxide...... Hope this will helpful

dilute nitric acid reacts with metal to produce hydrogen gas but not all metals. magnesium,mangnese and zinc react to give hydrogen gas and the corresponding nitrate
