The reaction is —

3KMnO4 + C6H8O7 — 3HMnO4 +C6H65K3O7

Oxidation number of C(central atom) inC6H8O7=+1

And oxidation number of C in C6H3K3O7 =1.4

i.e, here is increase in the oxidation number.and also H atom(electo+ve) is removed . So citric acid is oxidised in this reaction.

Thus in this reaction citric acid acts as reducing agent.
