The mixture of the concentrated hydrochloric acid and nitric acid is one of the strong oxidizing agents and this mixture called as aqua regia or reagent.

This mixture can help you to oxidize the noble metals, which are not generally oxidized. Gold, silver and palladium are such metals which are known as noble metals and are not prone to oxidation very easily.

So when you need to oxidize these metals you need to use the reagent.
