Given,

The rectangular components of a vector lying in xy plane are (n+1) and 1. If the coordinate system is turned by 60° the components become n and 3.

To Find,

The value of n.

Solution,

The components of the vector initially are (n+1) and 1.

The components of the vector after turning the coordinate axes by 60° are n and 3.

Now, on turning the axes the magnitude of the vector in both the cases remains the same.

So,

√((n+1)²+1²) = √(n²+3²)

(n+1)²+1 = n²+0

n²+1+2n+1 = n²+9

2n = 7

n = 7/2 = 3.5

Hence, the value of n is 3.5
