to it. When no wagon is attached, the speed of the automobile is 100km/hr.When 25 wagons are attached

Given : An automobile can move at the speed of  100 km/hr  with- out any wagon attached and reduction in the speed of the automobile directly proportional to the square root of the number of wagons attached to the engine When there are 25 wagons attached its speed is 50 km/hr

To Find : The greatest number of wagons with which the engine can move  

Solution:

automobile  without any wagons attached to it can run 100 km/hr

Speed of  automobile  = 100 - k√n

k is a constant  

n - number of wagons attched

for n =25 speed = 50 km/hr

=> 50=100 - k√25

=> 50 = 5k

=> k = 10

=> speed = 100 - 10√n

The greatest number of wagons with which the engine can move is

=> speed >  0

=>    100 - 10√n > 0

=>   10√n < 100  

=> √n > 10

=> n < 100

99  number of Wagons

greatest number of wagons with which the automobile can move is  99
