it is given that, refractive index of a material of a convex lens is n_1.

refractive index of medium in which lens is immersed = n_2

as it is given that, n_2>n_1, e.g., refractive index of medium is greater than refractive index of lens then, a converging lens {e.g., convex lens } behaves as diverging lens.

hence, a parallel beam of light incident on it will diverge.
