Let V1= y and V2 = x
M12 = V1/V2

Given M12 =1.6
V1/1.6X =1
C/1.5X =1
V1/1.6X= C/1.5X
V1= 3.2 * 10^8

Therefore speed of light in medium Y is 3.2 *10^8

speed of light in medium Y is 1.25 × 10^8 m/s.

it is given that refractive index of medium Y with respect to X is 1.6 and absolute refractive index of X is 1.5.

here, refractive index of medium Y with respect to X = 1.6

⇒refractive index of Y/refractive index of X = 1.6

⇒refractive index of Y/1.5 = 1.6

⇒refractive index of Y = 1.6 × 1.5 = 2.4

hence refractive index of medium Y = 2.4

we know, refractive index = speed of light in vaccum/speed of light in medium

2.4 = 3 × 10^8 m/s/speed of light in medium

⇒speed of light in medium = 3 × 10^8/2.4 = 1.25 × 10^8 m/s.
