The refractive index of diamond is much greater than that of ordinary glass. Is this fact of some use to diamond cutter ?

refractive index is the tendency of a material to refract the light ray at the highest possible angle,so refractive index of diomand which is high indicates that, it would absorb nd refract the light ray more efficiently than that of a ordinary glass,hence would shine more when cut nd shape,this is the why the fact is useful to the diomand cutter.hope the explanation will help.
