The refractive index of glass is 1.6 and that of diamond is 2.4. Calculate (i) refractive index of diamond with respect to glass and (ii) refractive index of glass with respect to diamond
Answers
Explanation:
Therefore, absolute refractive index of diamond = Refractive index of diamond with respect to glass × Absolute refractive index of glass =1. 6×1. 5=2. 4

Heya,
Given ndg = 1.6 and ng = 1.5
Refractive index of diamond with respect to glass;
=> Absolute refractive index of diamond/Absolute refractive index of glass
So,
Absolute refractive index of diamond = Refractive in of diamond with respect to glass * Absolute refractive index of glass
So,
nd = 1.5*1.6 = 2.4
Hence the option (2) is correct i.e. 2.4 is refractive index of diamond.
Hope this helps.....:)
