Solution -

Here , we are going to assume that ;

The refractive index of Medium 1 is μ¹ .

The refractive index of Medium 2 is μ² .

Now ,

The refractive index of Medium 1 relative to Medium 2 is ⁴/3 .

So , we can say that -

μ¹ = ⁴ / 3 .

/ μ²

→ Cross Multiplying

→ 3 μ¹ = 4 μ² .

→ μ² = ¾

/ μ¹

Answer :

The refractory index of Medium 2 with respect to medium 1 is ¾ .

Additional Information :

Snell's Law of Refraction -

According to this law , μ² / μ¹ = sin(θ_2) / sin(θ_1)

Here , μ² is the refractive index of the Medium where light is passing on to and μ¹ is the medium from where light is passing out of .

Given :-

The refractive index of medium 1 related to medium 2 is 4/3.

To Find :-

The refractive index of medium 2 relative to medium 1.

Solution :-

  • Let the refractive index of medium 1 be μ₁
  • Refractive index of medium 2 be μ₂.

According to question,

◘ The refractive index of medium 1 related to medium 2 is 4/3.

\sf{\dfrac{\mu_1}{\mu_2}=\dfrac{4}{3}  }

◘ For refractive index of medium 2 relative to medium 1 :-

\sf{\longrightarrow \dfrac{\mu_2}{\mu_1}=\dfrac{3}{4}  }

Therefore, the answer is 3/4.
