ANSWER :

Refractive index is the ratio of speed of light in vaccum to the speed of light in a particular medium.

Refractive index of glass is approximately 1.52 and refractive index of water is 1.33.

Glass has higher refractive index than water.

Light travels through slower in glass than through water.

Formula to find refractive index is [ n=c/v]

Here :

n = refractive index,

c = speed of light in vaccum,

v = speed of light in medium.

Refraction:

Bending of the incident ray of the light at the surface of the other surface is called as Refraction

Refractive Index

  • The ratio of velocity of light in the first substance with the second substance is known as Refractive Index

  • They have no units

•Refractive Index of glass is 1.50

•Refractive Index of water is 1.33

Refractive Index of a substance is calculated by the expression,

  \boxed{\sf{n = \frac{c}{v} }} \\ \\

Here,

v is velocity of light in that substance

c is velocity of light in vacuum

n is the refractive index
