DNA is most genetically active in the euchromatin region.

  • Chromatin is characterised by long DNA molecules associated with histone proteins. The DNA carries genetic information of the organism and is coiled around histones to fit inside the nucleus of the cell.
  • Chromatin can have two structures- the heterochromatin which is the very densely coiled chromatin region of the chromosome, and euchromatin which which is the slightly less coiled region.
  • Due to the less denser cooling of euchromatin, it is easier for proteins to interact with this DNA and the genes can be expressed easily.
  • Hence, euchromatin region is genetically more active.
