the resistance in the left gap of a metre bridge is 10ohm and the balance point is 40cm from the left end. Calculate the value of the unknown resistance.

Solution:

Here L= 40 cm.

 R = 10 ohm.  

Now, using meter bridge formulla:    

X = R x $\frac{100 - L} {L}$  

X = 10 x $\frac{100 - 40}{40}$

X = 10 x $\frac{60}{40}$

X = 15 ohm.

So, unknown resistance is 15 ohm.
