The resolution of 'Purna Swaraj' was proposed to the Congress in the Calcutta session of December 1929 by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He proposed that the British are to grant dominion status to India within two years.
In the next session of the Congress, which was held in Lahore, the public declaration of adoption of the resolution of 'Purna Swaraj' was done. A public declaration was also made saying that 26 January 1930 – a day which the Congress Party urged Indians to celebrate as 'Independence Day.
