From given condition,

$x - ( \frac{1}{3}x + \frac{1}{4}x + \frac{1}{6}x + \frac{1}{8}x )-3 = 0$

$x - \frac{8+6+4+3}{24}x - 3 = 0\\\\x - \frac{21}{24}x - 3 = 0\\\\x -\frac{7x}{8} = 3\\\\x = 8 \times 3\\\\x = 24$

Thus the total number of students​ is 24
