the resultant of 2 forces one double the other in magnitude is perpendicular to the smaller of 2 forces. what is the angle between them?

You can see that the resultant →R is perpendicular to the smaller vector →A.
The angle α can be found from trigonometry considering the triangle of hypotenuse 2 and opposite side 1 and get:
1=2sin(α)
so that sin(α)=12 and α=30° giving a total angle of:
90°+30°=120°
