sides of an equilateral triangle taken in the same order is:

Using cos 60 = 1/2  and sin 60 = 3^1/2/2

X-Components = 1 * 1/2 + 2 * 1/2 - 3 = -1.5

Y-Components = 1 * 3^1/2/2  - 2 * 3^1/2/2 + 0 = -3^1/2/2

(X^2 + Y^2)^1/2  = (2 1/4 + 3/4)^1/2  = 3^1/2
