Resultant is √p^2+p^2+2p^2cos(theta)

or √2p^2(1+cos(theta))

As 1+cos(theta) = 2cos^2(theta/2)

so resultant can be further solved as :

=√2p^2×2cos^2(theta/2)

or 2pcos(theta/2)

and it is a direct result for similar forces
