The resultant of two forces P and Q is magnitude of P. If P is doubled then the resultant will be inclined to Q at which angle?

As we know,

R = P = [ P^2 + Q^2 + 2PQ cos theta ] ^1/2

Q ^2 + 2PQ cos theta =0

Hence,

Q + 2P cos theta =0..........(1)

Let the angle between resultant of 2P & Q be x

Therefore,

tan x = 2Psin theta / ( Q+2 P cos theta)

At last, from eq 1

tan x = Infinity -----> x

= 90°
