The change in resistance can be easily calculated by applying the following formula:
Resistance = (Specific Resistivity Constant x Length of wire) / Area of cross section of wire
When the wire is stretched to 3 times its original length, its cross section is also reduced to one third of what it was before. By using the above relation, we find the new resistance to be 3x3= 9 times of what it was before!
