actually in 1856 the British launched a new rifle which named in Enfield rifle and it has a Greece cap which has to be bitten before loading.
a rumour was spread that the grease cap is made up from the fat of cow and pig as we know the Hindu consider cow as goddess and Muslim considered at pigs are dirty do not eat them so when they are came to know that that the Rifles Greece cap which was known as cartridge was made up from pig and cow fat their religion sentiments were hurt a lot and they thought that the Muslim are starting insulting them and this was the immediate reason for the revolt of 1857
