The Revolt of 1857 was started by Mangal Pandey. When he was serving for the British, he once came to know that the new cartridges of the the guns were coated using the fat of cows and pigs. Which, hurt his religious beliefs. Thus, when he refused to use the new cartridges and went to complain. He was tried and hanged in March 1857. From then, other soldiers too came to know and started protesting. Thus, adding to this, the protest turned into a Revolt.
