According to Bruner, cognitive growth entails how the human capabilities interact with technologies that are culturally invented which act as amplifiers of the capabilities.
This happens in the following stages.
ENACTIVE=> At this level knowledge is kept in form of motor responses. It is not limited to children since even adults can perform tasks such as typing.
ICONIC=>At this level knowledge is stored in form of visualized images and this explains why when a new topic or subject is introduced, it is normally accompanied by an image to enhance the understanding.
ICONIC=>At this level knowledge is stored in form of words, mathematical symbols and any other symbols. At this point the images visualized can now be related to their names and definitions.
According to Bruner this is the order of cognitive development.

The right sequence of major stages of cognitive growth as proposed by Jerome Burner are:
*Enactive – This stage takes place from birth to completion of one year of age. It represents knowledge using actions.
*Iconic – This stage takes place between one and six years of age. It represents the visual summarization of images.
*Symbolic – This stage takes place from seven years to a person’s lifetime. It represents the usage of words and symbols for the description of experiences.
