A ballad is a narrative poem of popular origin. 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' is a ballad in that it is a long narrative poem that tells a story about an ancient mariner who kills an albatross. Another feature of ballad that we find in the poem is the usage of archaic words. Some such words used in the poem are 'stoppeth', 'spake', 'hath', 'look'st', etc
