GODAVARI is called the GANGA of south India. Most of people have mentioned KAVERi but the real answer is GODAVARI. I'm also giving reasons and proof behind my answer.#Godavari is the longest and largest river of south India just like Ganga is the largest river of north India. This is the geographical reason behind godavari being called the Ganga of south India.#The great Indian religious fair KUMBHA takes place on the bank of Godavariat Nasik, Maharashtra. Just like Kumbha take place on the bank is of river Ganga at haridvar. This is the religious reason behind calling Godavari the Ganga of south India. Now I'm giving a proof which clear everything. This is a picture from a most famous general knowledge book used in north India ‘lucent'. Fact that Godavari is called the south Ganga and Vridha Ganga or old Ganga is underlined by red color.
