The Mespotomia civilisation was mainly centered around rivers. It was known as the land between rivers. The Tigris and Euphrates provided means  of transportation  and water for the people who settled in the area

Explanation:

  • It was easier to travel by boat than by land in ancient times. Few roads at this time there existed. Furthermore, due to the rivers this region was abundant in waterfowl and fish, which could be used for food
  • The land was flat and fertile and nutritious in this area. The flooding of the rivers had caused this. Almost annually, melting snow and rains in the mountains led to swelling of the rivers. When the rivers flowed down these mountains, water mixed up with soil. When the rivers entered the plains, water began flowing through floodplains, which was the flat land on the banks of the river.
  • When the river stretched over the floodplain, the soil settled down on the land. The fine soil is known that was deposited by the rivers was referred to as as silt which for cultivation, was good and fertile. Mesopotamia is known as "The Fertile Crescent," because of this.
