South Indian Rivers are seasonal ,i.e, they depend on the rainfall, but north Indian rivers are always flowing because of the continuous supply of water from the melting glaciers.
As the north Indian rivers flow, they carry lot of sediments and deposit them on their banks, which make the area, through which they flow, very fertile. They supply continuous water and hence are stable for irrigation .
Hope it helps !
