There are two roads diverged in a yellow wood.(yellow wood indicates a forest which turns yellow autumn). There is a two way road. The author was confused that which road he should take. There were two options of roads for him which led him to the same destination. The author was thinking very much and he decided to take the less travelled road.

The poem road not taken brings out the importance of making choice in one's life. The right choice makes ones future. The wrong one can mar it. Once the poet had to choose b/w two roads. He choose the road that was less travelled by. And that he says made all the differance.
