Answer :- 4 and 1 / 4

Explanation :-

By factorisation method

4y² - 17y + 4 = 0

4y² - 16y - 1y + 4 = 0

4y( y - 4 ) - 1( y - 4 ) = 0

( y - 4 ) ( 4y - 1 ) = 0

y - 4 = 0 ; 4y - 1 = 0

y = 4 ; 4y = 1

y = 1 / 4

the given quadratic equation roots are 4 and 1 / 4

Hope this and is help you.

\frac{1}{4} ,4

4y^{2} - 17y+4 = 0

by mid term splitting method

4y^{2} -16y-y+4=0 [-16-1 = -17 and (-16)(-1) = 16 ] \\ 4y(y-4)-1(y-4)=0 [ taking common factors ]

(4y-1)(y-4) =0

4y-1=0  and y-4 = 0

4y = 1 and y=4

y =\frac{1}{4} and y = 4

Roots of the equation are \frac{1}{4},4
