Solution:

It is given that,

Roots of the equation mx +2y -3=0 and x + ny + 16 =0 are (-1,3)

Now ,

substitute x = -1 , y = 3 , the

equations , we get

i ) mx+2y-3 = 0

=> (-1) + 2(3) - 3 = 0

=> -m + 6 - 3 = 0

=> -m + 3 = 0

=> -m = -3

=> m = 3

ii ) x + ny +16 = 0

=> (-1)+n(3)+16 = 0

=> -1 + 3n + 16 = 0

=> 3n +15 = 0

=> 3n = -15

=> n = (-15)/3

=> n= -5

Therefore,

m = 3 , n = -5
