Answer:
Yes, it's true that the rule of EIC came to an end in 1857 and was finally dissolved in the British Crown in 1858.
The British Parliament passed the Government of India Act, 1858, to remove the defects of the Double Government introduced by Pitt's India Act, 1784.
Pitt's India Act, 1784
So basically, what Mr Pitt suggested in his act was that the authority of the EIC should be limited by a Board of Control that was to be established in India in to limit the powers of The Court of Directors (set up by the EIC to solve Domestic issues of the workers of EIC and to control Criminal offences and overseas trade of the EIC). The Board of control looked after the criminal and matters, whereas the Court of Directors were limited to civil affairs. This marked the end of Governor Generals and the beginning of the Viceroys.
Effects of the Revolt of 1857
After the revolt of 1857, the British Government decided to take the powers of the EIC and permanently establish itself in India. Therefore, by introducing the GIA, 1858, the British queen Victoria became the Empress of The Dominion of India, thus marking the end of the British East India Company.
