The S phese of a cell cycle occurs during interphase, before meosis and mitosis, and is responsible for the synthesis or replication of DNA. In this way the genetic material of a cell is doubled before it enters meosis and mitosis , allowing there to be enough DNA to be split into daughter cells.

Answer:

S Phase is really important phase in Interphase because in this phase the cells have doubled their chromatin material but is Chromosome number is the same.

Explanation:

For Example,

Hypothetically, if a cell has 3n of chromatin material, then by the time it reaches the G2 phase it has 9n of chromatin material but its chromosome number will be the same i.e. 2n.

A cell would not be able to divide without undergoing S phase because the cell would not have its chromatin material divided and because of that by the time it reaches Meiosis I, there would not be enough chromatin material to for chromosomes.
