Given :  The salaries of 150 employees in an office

An employee selected at random.

To Find :   the probability that his salary is Rs. 6000 or more but less than Rs. 12000

Solution:

Salary                        Number of Employees

3000   - 6000                52

6000   - 9000                35

9000   - 12000               29

12000   - 15000              26

15000   -above                 8

Total                              150

salary is Rs. 6000 or more but less than Rs. 12000

Means salary is either 6000 - 9000 or  9000 - 12000

6000 - 9000   there are 35 employees

9000 - 12000   there are 29 employees

Hence salary is Rs. 6000 or more but less than Rs. 12000 = 35 + 29

= 64 employees

probability that his salary is Rs. 6000 or more but less than Rs. 12000

= 64/150

= 32/75

= 0.4267
