Suppose initially the salary of officer is S. now it is increased by 25% i.e. 25% of S = 0.25*S
so, now new salary S'=S=0.25 S=1.25S
Now to decrease it to the original salary, decrease in salary needed=1.25S-S=0.25 S
so, the decrease in salary in percentage i.e. % of S'(New salary)= 0.25S*100/1.25S=20%
hope this may help u
