When strong acid (eg. HClHCl) reacts with a strong base (eg. NaOHNaOH), neutralization reaction occurs i.e. neutral salt is produced.

HCl+NaOH→NaCl+H2OHCl+NaOH→NaCl+H2O

When strong acid (eg. HCl) reacts with a weak base (eg. NH4OHNH4OH), it preduces a acidic salt.

HCl+NH4OH→NH4Cl+H2OHCl+NH4OH→NH4Cl+H2O

NH4ClNH4Cl is an acidic salt because it reacts reversibly with water to produce H+H+ions

NH4Cl+H2O⇌NH4OH+Cl−+H+
