The connecting wire and the filament are made up of different material. The wire may be of Cu or Al whereas filament is made up of tungsten ie Wolfram.. So, the resistance in filament is knowingly made high so that, much heat energy is produced and light is produced due to the tungsten material.

Answer:
The wire in the filament which is made up of tungsten glows white hot but the wire in the connecting wires doesn't heat up as much as the filament and hence doesn't glow. Hope this help
