The connecting wire and the filament are made up of different material. The wire may be of Cu or Al whereas filament is made up of tungsten ie Wolfram.. So, the resistance in filament is knowingly made high so that, much heat energy is produced and light is produced due to the tungsten material.

The resistance of electric line wires is very, very less than that of the filament of the bulb. Therefore, the current through high resistance filament produces more heat which makes it glow.
