Given : The school basketball team has 15 players. Seven players are more than 74 inches tall, 6 players are taking honors classes, and 5 players are both more than 74 inches tall and taking honors classes.

2 players are randomly selected from the team,

To Find :  probability that both players are more than 74 inches tall or taking honors classes

Solution:

The school basketball team has 15 players

Total Players = 15

2 players out of 15 can be selected in  ¹⁵C₂   =  105 ways

more than 74 inches tall, = 7

taking honors classes,  = 6

74 inches tall and taking honors classes. = 5

n 74 inches tall or taking honors classes  = 7 + 6 - 5  =   8

2 players out of 8 can be selected in  ⁸C₂   = 28  ways

Probability that both players are more than 74 inches tall or taking honors classes  = 28/105

= 4/15

4/15 is the probability that both players are more than 74 inches tall or taking honors classes
