Most snacks, particularly those contain oil are now-a-days marketed in sealed airtight packaging. The air from such packages is removed by evacuation and flushed with oxygen-free nitrogen.
The main reason for doing it is to prevent possibility of rancidity of food. Hence, by doing this it just cut off supply of oxygen rich air to came in contact to stored item.
