Let the 1st angle be x

The 2nd angle is equal to 3x

The 3rd angle is equal to x + 40

Because of angle sum property for triangles

x + 3x + x + 40 = 180°

You now transpose ( move over ) 40 and add the like terms

5x = 180° - 40° = 140°

Now, you transpose 5

x = 140° ÷ 5 = 28°

Therefore 1st angle is equal to 28°

2nd angle is equal to 28 × 3 = 84°

3rd angle is equal to 28 + 40 = 68°
