Ionization energy is the amount of energy required to removal of an electron from isolated gaseous atom .

Calcium atomic number 20. Electronic configuration is { 1s }^{ 2 }{ 2s }^{ 2 }{ 2p }^{ 6 }{ 3s }^{ 2 }{ 3p }^{ 6 }.

The calcium element forms only Ca{ Cl }_{ 2 } but form CaCl because when { Ca }^{ 2+ } combines with 2C{ l }^{ - } ions, the lattice energy to compensate the second and first ionization energy of Ca.

Moreover C{ a }^{ 2+ } is having noble gas configuration. Therefore, it is more stable.
