As before the Revolution, the French society was divided into three estates or classes. They were the Clergy, the Nobility and the Commons. Both the first and the second estates were exempt from the taxes. Only the Third estate has to pay the taxes. They had to pay taxes such as grazing tax, tithes, titles, etc. This was a inequality in the society. Soon, after the emergence if the Middle Class, they recognized the unjust done with them. This situation led to the French Revolution in 1789.
