Answer:

a) the rate of discount given on the marked price of the shirt is 21.19 %

b) the cost price of the shirt is 1710

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : Selling price  = 1617

            Discount = 435

           rate of discount = ?

           Profit = 20%

           Cost price =?

Solution : Marked price = discount + selling price

                                      = 435 + 1617

                                      = 2052

a) Rate of discount = Discount/ Marked price x100

                           = 435/2052 x 100

                           = 21.19 %

b) Marked price = Cost price ( 1 + Profit)

           Cost price = Marked price/ (1+ Profit)

                            = 2052/ (1 + 20/100)

                            = 2052/(1+0.2)

                            = 2052/1.2

                            = 1710
