Question ;

V₁, V₂ and V₃ are the potential differences across the 1Ω, 2Ω and 3Ω resistors in the following diagram, and the current is 5A.

Find the value of V₁ and V₂ in volts!

Solution :

❒ Given question is based only on one concept and that is, The amount of current in a series connection is the same through any component in the circuit.

Now as per ohm's law, current flow through a resistor is directly proportional to the applied potential difference.

Mathematically, V = I R

  • V denotes voltage
  • I denotes current
  • R denotes resistance

Voltage across 1Ω resistor :

➙ V₁ = I × R₁

➙ V₁ = 5 × 1

V₁ = 5 V

Voltage across 2Ω resistor :

➙ V₂ = I × R₂

➙ V₂ = 5 × 2

V₂ = 10 V
