The sex of a child is determined by the chromosome donated by father as he has always an unmatched pair of chromosome that is X and Y but the mother has a paired chromosome as she has both XX chromosome.

During fertilisation the sex of a child depends what he/she inherited from his father. If the chromosome is XX it means the baby will be a girl child but if the chromosome will be XY then the child will be a boy.
