In human beings, women have a perfect pair of sex chromosomes XX, while men have a mismatched pair in which one is a normal sized X and other a short one Y i.e., XY. All children will inherit an X chromosome from their mother regardless of whether they are boys or girls. But a child who inherits an X chromosome from her father will be a girl, and the one who inherits a Y chromosome will be a boy. Thus, in human beings, the sex of a new born child is a matter of chance and none of the parents may be considered responsible for it.
