Answer:

i) The father is responsible for the sex of a child, not the mother." This statement is completely justified and can be proved as follows: A male has XY chromosomes and a female has XX chromosomes.

ii).If a sperm carrying X chromosome from male gets combined with the X chromosome from female, then the combination will be XX and child will be a baby girl.

iii).If a sperm carrying Y chromosome from male gets combined with the X chromosome from female, then the combination will be XY, and the child will be a baby boy.

Answer:

Sex determination in humans is done at the fertilisation.

~ Human beings have 23 pairs of chromosomes. 23 in males and 23 in females.

~ 22 chromosomes are same in male and female but the 23rd chromosome is different in both and is called sex chromosome.

~ This chromosome has one maternal and one parental copy.

~ The chromosomes in females are xx and the chromosomes in males are xy.

~The both cells in chromosome of females are x. But the sperm cell carries 50% of x and 50% of y chromosomes.

~ At the time of fertilisation, the embrio has one maternal chromosome copy which is x and the embrio either inherites x or y chromosome from father.

~ If the child inherites x chromosome from father, she will be a girl {xx} and if he carries y chromosome from father, he will be a boy.

~ So, in this way can say determination of sex of a child depends on his/her inheritance of father's chromosme.
