the sex of a child is determined by the chromosomes. most mammals including humans have XY chromosomes for sex determination. every female contains a single X chromosomes and every male contains either X or Y chromosome. after the fusion of their gemetes if the male produces Y chromosome then it will be a boy and if the male produces X chromosomes then it will be female.

X + X = female                                           X + Y = male
