it is inherited by father and mother both but it makes a difference by father as mothers have x and x chromosome but father has x and y chromosome. If x from father and x from mother meets girl is born. If a x from mother and y from father meets then a boy. Hence what sex the child will be determined by which chromosome( x or y ) of father meet the x chromosome of mother.
