Given,

H shape is needed to be cut from cardboard.

The shape's height is 50cm.

The three segments have 40cm in width.

And the thickness of the shapes is 5cm.

To Find,

The total area of the cardboard needed for the H shape.

Solution,

Given that,

H shape is needed to make.

H has three parts,

Two vertical and one horizontal.

The vertical part's height is 50cm.

The width is the same for the three parts.

Therefore,

The area required for the H shape will be,

area of the   first part + area of the second part + area of the third part

Area of the first part = 50 ×5

= 250cm²

Area of the second part = 30× 5

150cm²

Area of the third part = 50×5

250cm².

Therefore,the total area = 250+150+250

650cm².

Hence, a 650cm² area of the cardboard is needed to cut the H shape.
